Barbie's pastelkleuren maken plaats voor rottend oranjerood. Mijn enige lichtpuntje de stoffige kaars die ik 's ochtend aansteek 🕯️ En toch, als de zon opkomt, verborgen achter een dik pak wolken, en de hemel donkergrijs kleurt, voel ik een ontzag voor de felgeel afstekende bladeren van de iepen achter mijn huis. Een laatste rebellie voor het zwart-wit van de winter alles overneemt.

I'm using the Alphabet Superset to increase my skills as it comes to creating opera; writing, composing, directing, singing, acting, costume & set design. This week I already learned so much. This is what the beginning of Lief Dagboek looked like 👀 Six years ago I took a course in concept development for my minor. This picture was part of one of our assignments. I remember struggling so much during this course. By the end of it we had to come up with an artistic concept and I kept wanting to do something meaningful (and also cool and edgy🙈). I wanted to talk about sexism, female empowerment, gender. I wanted to make art that would have an impact, but I couldn't seem to find my voice. I was intellectualizing my creative thought process and I remember the (slightly) frustrated look in my teachers eyes. Eventually I dared to throw everything away and start again. Look closer to home. What was my story? At the time I'd discovered another pile of my mother's diaries and had started reading some of them in which she was the same age as I was. An idea started forming, what if I could use her diaries to tell her story? To tell my story? To talk about loss, about love, about finding yourself. The original concept looks nothing like what it eventually turned into (there was a moving tree involved and music by Debussy). For those who don't know, I wrote the text for this opera based on my mother's diaries, who passed away when I was young. Last august I got to be part of A.L.I.C.E. We created the performance from scratch in two weeks with the most amazing group of people thanks to @muziektheatertransparant , @desingelartscentre @anpierle @luigideangelis @bricesoniano @andrea_argentieri23 @wouteranlooy@prokoandpenka I absolutely loved everything about this project and it has inspired me to be more creative, improvise, write, create. So thankful ❤️

Throwback to our holiday in Tuscany! What is your favorite icecream?🍓🍨 Mine used to be strawberry when I was a kid. This is me eating strawberry icecream for the first time in years... why? Because when I started also tolerating and actually enjoying different kinds of ice-cream I felt that I shouldn't eat strawberry ice-cream anymore because I'd already eaten so much of it during my life.😂 Somehow I didn't question this logic until this summer after getting my autism diagnosis a couple of months prior. Vorige week ben ik begonnen met een campagne op voordekunst voor mijn opera project Lief Dagboek. Ik ben hier al ruim twee jaar mee bezig! Ik heb het niet gelijk willen delen in verband met de Black Lives Matter movement want Black Lives Matter. Ik wil nu toch graag deze campagne met jullie delen en ik beloof dat diversiteit een van de speerpunten zal zijn van voorstellingen van Miss Charms in de toekomst. Ik moet bekennen dat ik me in het verleden voornamelijk bewust ben geweest van (maatschappelijke) problemen waar ik zelf iets mee te maken had zoals sexisme en klimaatverandering. Ik heb me afzijdig gehouden van racisme onder het mom van 'pick your battles' en afgezien van het sporadisch ondertekenen van anti-zwartepiet petitie deed ik niets. Ik zal vanaf nu af en toe dingen delen op social media, maar vooral gesprekken aangaan, mensen erop wijzen als ze iets zeggen dat niet kan, protesteren en actief opzoek gaan naar diversiteit in mijn werk. Autumn 🧡💛 I'm so happy autumn is here. This summer has been rough. Normally I wouldn't share this on social media, but I've learned that it's helpful to know others are going or have gone through similar things. I got really close to a burn-out, was physically and mentally exhausted. Luckily I took a break when I did, and I'm much, much better now. But still working on knowing my limits and learning to lean on the people around me who genuinely want to help me. Autumn feels like a new leaf in many different ways and I'm feeling excited again which is a feeling I've missed so much 🧡 so, to anyone who's feeling lost, exhausted or just not okay, hang in there and trust those around you who love you 🧡
